Did the Match of the Year happen in Nashville? What’s the name of the new finisher for Silas Young? And who has the momentum heading into June 19th? This and more as I took some notes this weekend so let’s review…

The final stops on the “Road to Best in the World” wrapped this weekend and now all eyes focus on NYC and our Pay-per-view on Friday June 19th. “Best in the World: Battle of the Belts” features two title matches and a jam-packed card with intense action and this past weekend showed the intensity is increasing with each passing day.

There is none bigger than ROH World Champion Jay Briscoe vs ROH World Television Champion Jay Lethal with both titles on the line. Talking with Jay Lethal on Friday, I see a supremely confident man who reminds me of Tiger Woods. Some of my friends in the media cover golf and have relayed that Tiger has control of everything that he does. I can make that same comparison to Jay Lethal who studies every detail of a situation before he executes. There are no accidents or happenstances with Lethal.

While Tiger has lost his game a bit, Lethal is stronger than ever. This past Saturday, Lethal instigated a fight with Jay Briscoe through ODB. Lethal knew that his controversial actions would provoke reaction from Briscoe, which was exactly what he wanted. Professional Wrestling has been called the game of human chess. If that is true, does Lethal have Briscoe in “check”?

While this may be Briscoe’s strongest challenger he has faced since winning the ROH World title for the second time, don’t think that Briscoe doesn’t see value in winning the ROH World Television Championship. Jay already carries two belts and said to me that he doesn’t mind carrying three. If he wins at “Best in the World” Jay Briscoe told me this weekend that he plans on keeping all three. No word yet on what Lethal will do if he is victorious.

    - You must go out of your way to watch Roderick Strong vs Dalton Castle from Nashville on VOD as soon as you can. It will be in the conversation for ROH Match of the Year and might be the best singles match of 2015.

    - Long drives between towns give King Corino and I time to reflect and review the events we call. Friday’s event in Collinsville was a lot of fun but Corino’s patience for BJ Whitmer is wearing thin. I write this to let everyone know that I am doing my best to diffuse this situation but I worry that it’s out of my hands and control.

    - The Kingdom was all over the place this weekend. Creating havoc in singles matches in Collinsville and then getting themselves added to the main event in Nashville, Maria Kanellis’ IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions look forward to their Six-Man Tag Team match with Adam Cole against AJ Styles and the Young Bucks at “Best in the World." I wonder how Maria feels about the upcoming title defense for Bennett and Taven against “Machine Gun” Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows in Osaka, Japan on July 5th.

    - Crazy week of Ring of Honor Wrestling Television! Dalton Castle vs Jushin Thunder Liger, the Kingdom vs Bullet Club and a ROH World Tag Team title match with the Addiction and reDRagon as well as Brutal Bob vs Cheeseburger. Fans saw it this weekend on their local Sinclair stations and the entire country will be able to see it this Wednesday at 8/7c on Destination America.

    - Silas Young has a new finishing move that he used to beat Watanabe on ROH TV last week and Cheeseburger in Collinsville. It’s part airplane spin/part TKO and it’s called “Misery”. Matching his attitude, it seems like a perfect name.

    - Speaking of new move names, Ray Rowe told me that the new backbreaker combo he uses is called the “Path of Resistance”. Keep an eye out for that!

    - Controversial outcome in the tag team match in Collinsville between Delirious and Matt Sydal against the Addiction with second referee Gordon Pumpernickel making the three count. Check out the VOD and see if you agree with me that Pumpernickel looks like the love child between Carrot Top and Zach Galifinakis.

    - Mark Briscoe was on standby all weekend, ready to head home to Sandy Fork at a moment’s notice in case his wife went into labor. She is getting ready to deliver their fourth child (and first son). Thankfully, the “Sussex County Chicken” was able to get home before the birth, which as I write this column hasn’t happened yet.

    - No live events for ROH this weekend but a number of us will be on hand in Bristol, PA to evaluate and train hopefuls at the next ROH Tryout Camp. Over 50 camp attendees have appeared on ROH events and that number will continue to grow. No need to go shopping when your cupboards are full. Still time to apply!

See you at Best in the World!
