Florida girl, 18, arrested and expelled after relationship with 15-year-old female classmate

  1. What always confused me was the varying if these ages, in the UK for instance I can ride a moped at 16 but can't smoke or drink until 18 yet I'm supposed to be responsible for my actions in the eyes of the law by 10 I think it is. The logic is absent.
  2. You can have sex here at 16, meaning we can be fathers/mothers, but we can not smoke/drink until two years later. It's ridiculous, and will change in the near future imo.
  3. 15 years is ridiculous as well as being registered as a sex offender.
Like holy, this world is f'd. What about that 54 year old actor who married a 16 year old? Are we going to ignore that ffs.
  4. Woah what, hold that rape cause, these lesbians are three years apart with this one being 18 :tough: Gotta make a big deal out of it, call the news press too!
  5. What's ridiculous is the relations would have been accepted in the eyes of the law until the chick's 18th birthday and THEN it becomes an issue. fuck this country

  7. I've just had a chat about this with a friend of mine. (I can only base things on my knowledge of UK laws so may not be entirely right in the eyes of Americans!)

Here, if this was a 15 year old female and an 18 year old male this would be statutory rape. People wouldn't agree with it.
Now, the age of both still favours the younger girl. The older girl has to take responsibility for actions in a legal sense but as they both consented it seems a harsh punishment!

It's a horrible double-edged sword and as much as I feel for the girl, as an 18 year old she must have known she was running a risk when getting together with a 15 year old.
  8. You really think she knew she was running a risk or do you think it is more likely she was just a senior in high school who saw a hot sophomore and didn't think anything was wrong with it?

Much more likely the latter IMO
  9. Happened with me and my gf. Had to break up with her because she was 16, because we both knew the risk. I'm sure everybody knows, they just think in the back of their mind no matter will care about the situation and whatnot.
  10. It probably is the latter to be fair, it's why it's such a tricky one to argue right or wrong against. Like I said I can only go on how things are in the UK, people will instantly come down harder on an older male with a younger female and the way cases are handled differs between the younger party being under or over 13. It's a different ball game with two females but at what point can the Police prove that the older party didn't take advantage of the younger one?

That's why it's such a damn horrible situation. Most likely two girls who fancied each other and ended up in a situation when the parents found out and didn't like it!
  11. We had something similar with my little sister who was 12, nearly 13 and her boyfriend who was only just 15. Both consented, he got arrested for statutory rape. First I heard of it I wanted to rip him to shreds, then realised she had just as much say in it. Luckily the Police here took no action on him due to the situation but it could have ended up with him on the Sex Offenders Register for an indefinite amount of time as she was under 13.

It's why it's such a hard subject to comment on. The kids don't always realise the consequences of what they're doing, but they have to face them when things go wrong.
  12. If you want to know why the situation is preposterous just google 'age of consent in United States'- there is literally a different set of guidelines for each state.

and as I said before if she were 17 it is a complete non issue. They could have hypothetically been together (legally) for two years but as soon the older girl turns 18 it becomes 'bad' or 'immoral' ? the fuck outa here. And what if the two were genuinely in love? They are supposed to be like lol brb, just turned 18, see you in 2 1/2 years when this is more socially acceptable!

    give me a break

  13. Any time you are discussing sex or relationships and 12 year olds it is a lot murkier IMO. The difference between a 12 year old and a 15 year old is exponentially more than the differences between 15 and 18 year olds IMHO
  14. But....but lesbians
  15. That's why I could only comment from a UK knowledge base! We're not even in the same stage of school as 15 year olds when we are 18 so the thought of it is much worse here, we'd have to physically go to a high school to pick up an underage kid if any of us dated one (which is why it sounds much worse!)

If they were genuinely in love it's down to the parents of the younger girl to show a little more respect to it and speak to the older girl and her parents in a more low-key way. Explain why they're not happy with it and deal with it out of the public/legal eye.

It just concerns me that if this were a male/female relationship people may judge it differently. It also sounds awful that they could hop states and be allowed to continue elsewhere.
  16. You're totally right, not going to disagree with you at all. It's a complicated subject with many rights and wrongs and as much as I think lowering the consent age in the UK might solve a few issues it could also open up the biggest, ugliest can of worms ever to exist.
  17. Yeah, but it IS different. A gay relationship isn't the same as a straight relationship, and a girl isn't the same as a boy. The fact that they're female and gay does entitle them to a little extra sympathy, IMO. It seems unfair to hold them to the same standards as a regular couple when the dynamic of their relationship if fundamentally far more tricky.
  18. The thought of 12 year olds having sex is pretty disturbing in and of itself. My sister turns 12 next month and I would honestly murder any 15 year old thinking he is going to do anything like that with her.
  19. While this does seem logical, it seems a lot of Americans are fucking idiots. They'll just say, "OMG why do gay relationships get better laws then us, what about equality!" or some shit. This country is stupid when it comes to gay relationships, they can't get married yet they have to follow by these laws. :pity1:
