IMPACT Ratings & Viewership Are Up Drastically For 1/3/13

Discussion in 'TNA iMPACT! (2011-2015)' started by Testify, Jan 5, 2013.

  1. According to TV By The Numbers Impact Wrestling airing January 3, 2013 had 1,618,000 viewers (up from the previous week's 1,333,000 viewers) with a 1.14 rating (up significantly from the 0.95 last week).

The bad thing is that it's probably gonna go down to average 1.3 mill next week.

    Hype = ratings. Simple economics.

They need to do this more often, but hype someone less predictable. Sorry, but it can't just be me bored of these hyped Sting returns?

Spoilers ruin everything IMO. Have it live, you'll get more viewers, it's as simple as that.

  4. RE: IMPACT Ratings & Viewership Are Up Drastically For 1/3/1 3

It isn't, I think JoeRulz (new name blows sorry broda) posted that he's had 13 since tna was formed.

Exactly. It isn't me being bias either, I'm sick to death of Undertaker returning and doing the same old. It's boring.

Going to get really hated for this but I honestly just care about Sting on TNA anymore. He's done everything there, he's their first hall of famer, I would much rather him face Taker and then they can both retire. It'd be a real shame if we don't see that match imo.

It's nowhere near as simple as that. They were live all summer and the ratings were basically the same.. roller coastering (new verb) between .95 and 1.2 most of the summer.

  7. RE: IMPACT Ratings & Viewership Are Up Drastically For 1/3/1 3

They need to piggyback off of the success they had this week. If they hyped next weeks show as a live one, they might get the same amount of viewers, or more. I miss Smackdown most of he time cause I read the spoilers. I believe a lot of people read Impact spoilers then don't watch the show.

A lot of people smoke meth. Doesn't mean it's a bright idea. People who complain about none live shows just strike me as people with no self control. If you want to watch the show and enjoy it why are you even entetaining the idea of reading spoilers? I mean, if you were going to see a new movie that came out on Friday, would you read the plot on wikipedia just because it was posted on the Internet?

Also, your plan of action would be to randomly decide to switch back to live shows after seeing this 1.1 rating, to try and 'piggy back' off success? I mean, come on man. TNA 100% knew the ratings would rise to start 2013 after the holiday season, it's common sense.

They advertised going live during the summer, went live and ratings were unaffected. Thinking it would be any different this time is a logical fallacy. If TNA wants better ratings they need to keep the steady hand on the wheel that has been, keep producing entertaining material and start ADVERTISING so some people may actually KNOW ABOUT THEIR PRODUCT. I know there are a few of us who are constantly harping about the ad thing, but it is too damn true.

Yeah but you're a TNA mark, they don't have to work too hard to keep you. I'm talking about people who are wrestling fans and don't really watch TNA. Having taped shows are a disadvantage, it's what happened back when Nitro started beating RAW. You HAD to watch Nitro to see what was going to happen. Right now TNA needs that aura around it, but they don't. I love TNA and want them to succeed, advertising: yes! That won't be enough though IMO. As to your point about movies, movie sequels don't come out every week. If they made Lethal Weapon 1-4 come out in four consecutive weeks, I'm sure people would read up on the plot as to not waste their time/money on a similar product. A two hour wrestling show is the same amount of time as a full length movie. To keep non die hard fans interested, don't give them a chance to know what happens next, make them watch.

You still don't address the main flaw in your plan. Why would going live now help if it didn't help before? We agree there is a problem but your solution has already been tried and failed. The product being taped is obviously not why people aren't watching.

And I'm not sure what my stance on the TNA product has to do with anything. I enjoy TNA, yes, but that doesn't mean they can do whatever and keep me interested. They KEEP me interested with their consistently entertaining programming. Most people who watch the show enjoy it.. the problem is getting the WWE Fanboys who think it is a joke of a company to tune in. Not keeping people who are open minded enough to give it a try.

I'm not saying its the only fix, but IMO it would help. How about this: advertise your live show during RAW?

  12. IMPACT Ratings & Viewership Are Up Drastically For 1/3/1 3

Right, because WWE would just allow that to happen lol. I enjoyed live shows as much as anyone but I just don't see how it can be near the top of anyone's priority list after the summer. As far as attracting new fans I would venture to guess most would rather they leave the IZ as opposed to go live, if they were deciding between one or the other.

  13. RE: IMPACT Ratings & Viewership Are Up Drastically For 1/3/1 3

I'll agree with you there, but I posted previously how low their house show attendance is, so I see why they stay at the IZ. It's a tough nut to crack. As for advertising, I think the station gets to decide what's advertised. So in theory they could advertise on RAW.

I'm quite certain USA is loyal to WWE since it is far and away their most popular show. The peanuts TNA could offer them to run an advertisement wouldn't be worth how pissed Vince would be if they started running TNA adverts Monday's at 9.

And yea, it is an issue that when they do actually leave the IZ the crowds are generally not capacity and oftentimes flat out dead. I personally don't have any real gripes with the IZ but I know a lot of people do.

  15. RE: IMPACT Ratings & Viewership Are Up Drastically For 1/3/1 3

Going live has proven to have no positive effect on ratings one way or another. Raw's ratings in the late 90's turned around in a big way in the spring of 1998, when it was still a taped show. They didn't start going live permanently until sometime in '99.

  16. IMPACT Ratings & Viewership Are Up Drastically For 1/3/1 3

Regardless of the ratings, a live show is always better than a taped show. Live is the way forward imo.

I pretty much thought the reason was because it was LIVE. :hogan:

  18. IMPACT Ratings & Viewership Are Up Drastically For 1/3/1 3

I believe the rating will sink again next week, because the show was painfully UNEVENTFUL.

    It was OK
