Who Won?

Poll closed Aug 24, 2016.
  1. Guernica

  2. Christian

  3. Participants only (others will be suspended)

  1. The following contest is scheduled for one fall...

(@Dylan™) Guernica vs. Christian (@CM Punk)

    The rules are as follows:

-No interuptions, only competitors can post here
-Pictures, videos, livestream etc. are all banned, apart from titantron entrances.
-The first promo must be posted within 24 hours.
-There is a 2 promo limit.
-Voting will then last for 24 hours after the last promo is posted.

Voting for yourself will result in instant disqualification and suspension

Please don't post during the match. If you need to post an OOC post,
it needs to be important, short and be in a Spoiler.
  2. The arena dims as all of the lights individually turn off. The crowd’s cheers get louder and louder as each light goes off, and eventually the crowd let out a huge roar as Guernica’s typical monologue appears on the titantron. Today, it reads:

‘Rage, rage against the dying of the lights’

‘Lord Of The Land’ by Kevin McLeod plays as The Golden Eagle, Guernica, bursts out from behind the curtains. He hypes up the crowd from the top of the stage before making his way down the ramp, slapping the hands of out reaching fans. El Salvador goes around the ring and continues to slap the fans' hands before rolling into the ring. He then falls to his knees and points both of his hands to the sky as sparks fall from above. The Gladiator Of Lucha Libre then rises to his feet.

Guernica soaks in the applause for a moment as he surveys the scene. He retrieves a microphone from a producer at ring side. He taps the top of the microphone, testing if it is live, before beginning to speak:

‘Buen Dia, my friends and family of IWT!’

Predictably, the crowd cheer at Guernica’s usual opening line. He waits for the cheers to stop before continuing.

‘Friends, followers, family and future opponents, you are all welcome. Every single one of you is welcome.’

‘But enough welcoming, you are not all here for that. I know for a fact, that all of you are here to hear me talk about The IWT Hall Of Famer, The Legend, The Man Who I Face At IWT SummerSlam: Christian!

The crowd cheer at the mention of one of the most prolific and successful men in IWT History. Guernica keeps talking:

‘Before I talk about Christian, I want to take a few moment to talk about my IWT Uprising opponent: Ronnie S. Huxley.’

    The crowd cheer again.

‘Ronnie, last month at Uprising, you and I had a great match, and I applaud you. You kept the match fair and traditional, just as any good man would. You showed character in that ring, and you didn’t cave in to the pressure by cheating. You are a real man, so I thank you and wish you the best of luck. As I said, if you ever need me, I have your back; and I know for a fact that if I ever need you, you will have my back.’

‘But let’s not dwell on the past. You never get anywhere going backwards, you need to move forward. So, moving on from Ronnie S. Huxley, I turn my attention to my next opponent. You all know him. It’s Christian.’

A huge explosion of approval erupt from the crowd. A Christian chant starts which cuts of Guernica as he prepares to speak. Eventually, they die down, and Guernica is allowed to speak.

‘Christian, there’s isn’t any other way to put this. You’re a legend in the business. You are an exceptional man with some great achievements. You set an example to every young, aspiring fighter out there. However, more important than that, you are exactly what I want to be.’

‘I’ve talked at length about what I want to achieve in my career, especially in IWT. It’s known to everybody that there is only one goal: to be remembered as one of the greatest of all time. To be a legend in this business. Christian, that’s exactly what you are. A legend.’

    The crowd pop.

‘I really do respect your achievements. You were the first ever IWT World Heavyweight Champion, and held it three times, more than anybody else. This time last year, at last year’s SummerSlam, you in the running to face Wigga Lee for The IWT Championship. You’ve faced Lee for The IWT Revival Championship. Then, at Dragon Rising, you retired at the top of your game. You left in-ring competition as one of the best to have ever competed inside an IWT Ring.’

‘Yet, after such a great send off, with an induction to The Hall Of Fame and a role as The Voice Of IWT Commentary, you have now decided to come back to the place that you loved, and you choose to face me.’

‘I feel flattered. I mean, of all the people in this company, you thought that I would be the young chico that would give you a fight on your return. I’m honoured, but I truly think that things won’t be as easy for you as they were once before, Christian.’

‘Now, don’t take that the wrong way Christian. If you’ve still got what it takes, then you’ve still got what it takes. I know people who, like a fine wine, get even better with age.’

    The crowd start cheering again.

‘That said, IWT is even tougher than ever before, and before you enter the ring with me, or any other person in IWT, I want you to know that. We’ve got people coming from Next Generation Wrestling, just like myself. Competition is high, and the younger generation are stepping up. As much as some Hall Of Famer’s like Jack Forte and Aids Johnson would like to keep their place as The Best In IWT, they know they’re slipping. It happens to all of us.’

‘Trust me, Christian. I do respect you, probably more than any other man in this company right now. However, you may remember something that I said to Ronnie S. Huxley before we fought. I said to him that there’s no point in being so nice and respectful to your opponent that you let them win the match. God, no. I want to win this match, because as I said before, I want to become a legend. The quickest way to become a legend is to beat a legend, and take his torch. Take his light. Become the next of kin, and win.’

‘So, Christian. It’s time to pass on the torch. Do so at any time, I’ll be waiting.’

Guernica enters his corner and sits on the middle rope, waiting for The IWT Hall Of Famer to make his appearance.

  3. As Christian's theme hits, golden smoke starts to ascend from the stage. After a couple of moments, Christian walks out on stage to a thunderous reaction as he makes his one time return to the squared circle. Christian starts walking down the ramp but stops as he soaks in the reaction the crowd is giving off.

    Ring Announcer:
Making his way to the ring, from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, weighing in at 227 lbs, "Captain Charisma", CHRISTIAN!

As Christian enters the ring, he quickly gets onto the turnbuckle and does his signature taunt to the crowd. Christian asks the referee for a microphone and averts his attention to the crowd ignoring Guenrica in the process.

Christian starts stretching within the ring before getting handed a microphone.

Christian: I'm sorry, it's been a while since I've done this. I could feel ring rust within each inch of my body, so this might take a while to get used to. But something that'll I'll never get used to, is the reception I receive from you the IWT Universe.

The crowd erupts and start chanting "Welcome Back!"

Christian: Whether it be positive or negative reaction, that energy will always captivate me...
Okay, enough with this sentimental garbage. I'll save it for Aids 100th retirement which should be by the end of this PPV.

Christian starts looking down on his microphone and chuckles

Christian: You know, for the first time in ever, I feel like I'm going into the match not as the underdog, but rather the match favourite. And honestly, it feels unusual to me, because I've been so used to an underdog role, I may as well be in a position as deep down as where Michael began his career. And the thing is, I used to put myself so high on a pedestal, because I felt that I rightfully deserved to be up that high. And 365 plus days later, I make my in-ring return at the biggest party of the summer, "SummerSlam!" against the newcomer, Guernica...

The audience gives off a mixed reaction

Christian: It sounds underwhelming, I know, but you can thank your genius of a General Manager, Michael for it. I'm sure for as much as he does good, he equals it out with the bad.

Christian walks towards Guenrica as they face off

Christian: I won't cut you short, Guernica. Matter of fact, I was in the back earlier today and I spoke to a few talent on their thoughts of you. To my surprise, some people in the back actually believe that you'll be able to elevate yourself after facing a veteran like me. They think, that maybe, just maybe I've lost all the talent I once used to have commentating with that loser who sat beside me. But with all due respect, those people are wrong. And you're wrong if you even think that's remotely accurate. Even though I've been out of action for over a year... for that time lost, I had the best seat in the house to learn about each and every IWT talent who walked through those curtains day in and day out. And I know each and every superstar better than they might know themselves.

Before, I had all the talent in the world and was on top of the world, but combine that with all the knowledge I've garnered and you're going into this match with your hands tied behind your back. Because THIS MATCH is going to be a one sided battle, bitch.

The crowd gives off a mixed reaction, but mostly cheers

Christian: I've beaten the best this company had to offer, so if you really think you can handle a 3x World Heavyweight Champion, you've got something else coming your way, kid!

You won your first match here not too long ago. Congratulations, you've made your first mark in this company. But the mistake you made was accepting an open challenge from me. I think you got the wrong picture, Guenrica. I didn't choose to fight you. This was an open invitation given to anyone in the locker room. I told Michael to give me anyone he pleased and he saw something in you. I on the other hand... well, I can't say the same. You maybe had this idea that you can take a leap all the way to the top by getting through someone like me. But I'm telling you right now, I'm going to knock you further down from where you started. Your respect for me won't be enough to beat me and neither will your talent. This is your second match here, Guenrica. Just make sure it doesn't end up becoming your last...

Christian walks up to Guenrica's face as they are now nose to nose

  4. Guernica steps to the side, getting out of Christian's space. He slowly paces to the other side of the ring, shocked by words Christian has just said to him. Guernica moves into the corner and raises the microphone to his mask. He pauses for a moment, keeping steady eye contact with Christian, before beginning to speak once again:

'I'm going to admit one thing Christian. I'm shocked. I'm absolutely shocked, because I expected a bit more class from you, Christian. For somebody who has spent over year watching all of IWT's talent from, you said yourself, 'The best seat in the house'; I don't think you have any idea who you are dealing with, Señor.'

The crowd let out a huge cheer in Guernica's favour.

'Don't you think there's maybe something you missed, Christian? Don't you think there's a reason that I was the one that was chosen? A reason that Michael thought that I was good enough to take on the legend, Christian? A reason that those people you spoke to in the back said that I was able to give you a fight!? A reason that they have my back at IWT SummerSlam!? Por es amor de Dios! It's because I'm Guernica!'

The crowd let out another tremendous cheer. Guernica's calm start has quickly escalated into passionate roaring.

'I'm The Golden Eagle! The Gladiator Of Lucha Libre! I'm the person with more heart and soul, more will and defiance, and more will and want than anybody else in this company! I have the skill to make it anywhere, and I more than definitely have the endurance to go all the way in this company! The people backstage are behind me, the management team are behind me, the people in this arena are behind me and, most importantly, the people watching at home are behind me! That's why I'm here: because everybody is behind me, and they want to see me make it here!'

Once again, the crowd cheer. Guernica refuses to calm down as he keeps on building up energy and charisma.

'You should know by now yourself, Christian! As an IWT Hall Of Famer, a legend in the business, you should know that it's moments like this which create legends! Moments when legends like you, Christian, face people like me! When the legends of yesterday face the legends of tomorrow! Everybody believes that I have what it takes to get to the top, and if I have to beat a man that is truly respected by not only myself, but all of the wrestling business, then so be it! Nothing can stop me from becoming the legend that I'm destined to be! Not you Christian, not some other Hall Of Famers like Jack Forte, not any of my Next Generation Wrestling co-workers, not any Bullad Club member, not any IWT Originals, nobody can stop me! Nobody!'

The loudest cheer yet rings out in the arena. Guernica takes a moment to calm himself down as he starts to shake. Eventually, after a deep breath, he begins to speak once more in a more calming tone.

'It's true, you have defeated people who you 'think' were like me in the past, but the truth is, Christian, you haven't faced anybody like me before. In the same way that some people might think that you're past it because you spent over a year without taking one step in the ring - some people might think that I'm just another cocky young chico who thinks they're the next big thing, only to be quickly dispatched by somebody who is actually good enough for IWT. But despite what you might think, Christian, I'm not that kind of chico...'

'I'm so much better than that, and you're going to find that out when we both step into the ring at IWT SummerSlam. If you don't think I have the talent to beat you, then you have left me with the advantage. I have got the element of surprise, and in the eyes of many, I've got nothing to prove. If you really think that I haven't got what it takes to beat you, then you have all the pressure. The pressure on you to 'beat the new guy' and the overwhelming dread when you lose; or maybe you might actually decide to be humble and respect me instead of dismissing me. Either way, I get the respect I deserve, and I also take one step closer to my goal: becoming a legend.'

'Moving onto the match itself, I think you're right when you say one thing: my respect isn't going to win me the match. Maybe you're right when you say my talent won't win the match either. However, you haven't taken into account the one thing that makes me Guernica: My heart and soul, my will and defiance, my will and my want! Nobody has more of that than The Golden Eagle! The problem with you Christian, is that no amount of in ring experience can teach you to have those qualities; and no amount of ringside analysis can teach you how to beat it.'

'You called me a new-comer when you introduced me, but I'm anything but. In the ring, you'll see that. I've been training since I was a little boy of eleven years old, spending day after day at my grandfather's Lucha Libre, honing my skills, practising my defiance. It altered my perception of the ring entirely. He taught me the key mental attributes you need in wrestling: self control and resistance. Those qualities will be the difference between you and I, Christian.'

'So come IWT SummerSlam, if you think it's going to be my last match, don't hold your breath. I'm just getting started. This match won't be once sided; it's going to be the fight of your life. I will get the respect I deserve from you, win or lose. At the end of the day, I get a word of respect from an IWT Legend, and I continue my path to the top. The torch is passed, the light is taken, given to the next of kin - the one who started from the bottom and made it all the way to the top.'

'That's where I'll be at IWT SummerSlam. Regardless or whether I win or lose, I'll be there: at the top.'

Suddenly, Guernica hastily walks into Christian's space. Guernica stares right into Christian's eyes as he says his final words:

    'Adios, y'hasta la vista.'

Guernica steps back turns his back to Christian for a moment. He hands the microphone to an attendant at ringside before exiting the ring himself. He maintains eye contact with Christian as he steps off the apron and lands on the floor. Guernica continues to keep staring at Christian as he makes his way up the ramp onto the stage. Just before the curtain, he stops, waiting for Christian to answer.

    OOC: Good luck, buddy.

  5. Christian: Woah, woah, woah...

Where do you think you're going? You do realize we're at Summerslam, right? You see the signs, the billboard and the apron. They read, SummerSlam!
    Wait wait wait...
    Don't tell me...
Are you going to quickly go make a phone call to your deadbeat criminal father about how you're about to get a beating of a lifetime?
Or maybe, are you going to go dig your own grave next to your dead little sister?!? Because if that's the case, don't bother. I'll do it personally for you.

The crowd starts turning on Christian and the mixed reaction transitions into full on boo's. Guenrica starts storming back towards the ring.

Christian: Easy there, you'll get your chance to get your hands on me in a moment. That is, if I let you...

The crowd starts chanting "You Suck!" at Christian as he starts laughing at both the crowd and Guenrica.

Christian: It seems you've got the wrong perception of me. The thing is, I don't care about the people in the back, I don't care about our General Manager, Michael, I don't care about the fans, especially at a dump like this right here in Brooklyn...

    The crowd starts boo'ing immensely

Christian: And I certainly do not give two sh*ts about you!

An "Asshole!" chant breaks out within the arena

Christian: I don't need your constant reminders on who I am. I know who I am!

I'm the man who built this company from the ground up!
I'm the man, who made the IWT World Heavyweight Championship mean something by carrying it on three different occasions!
I'm the man who put my blood, sweat and tears into this company to make it reach heights that were never reached before!
Calling me a legend is an understatement! I am IWT and IWT is NOTHING without Christian!

Christian starts panting off anger and frustration of Guenrica's words

Christian: You probably thought after watching a few clips of mine, that you had an idea of what kind of man I am. Well let me tell you, it's one thing to watch me on television, but when you're in this ring with me, I'm a completely different monster!

You don't believe me? Ask Midas...

    Crowd: WHAT?!?

    Crowd: WHAT?!?

    Crowd: WHAT?!?

    Crowd: WHAT?!?

    Dat Kid...

    Crowd: WHAT?!?

Christian: You get the picture. The funniest thing to me is, you probably don't know half those people. And not only that, you probably wouldn't be able to lace their boots. And I speak from personal experience...

So when you have the audacity, to tell someone like me that I'll be having the fight of my life... I can't help but feel sorry for you. Because you've gotten the wrong picture of who I am and what IWT is about.

IWT is a place where it's acceptable for a general manager to bang the local retard, FTJ.
IWT is a place where we can't differentiate two superstars based alone on their race.
IWT is a place where we had a man who was with god have nudes within his bible.
Internet Wrestling Titles is something you'll never understand.

This place isn't any company like you've ever been with before. In this company, you expect the unexpected.

    The crowd starts chanting IWT

Christian: And when you're in the ring with Christian, you expect... the unexpected. I've been with this company for nearly 5 years, so if you think that you're my biggest threat to date, I'll let you know that the biggest threat in this arena right now, is the man you've made mad.

Christian takes a few steps backwards in the ring

Christian: You want to be a legend so bad, why don't you hop into this ring?!? Because nothing is going to change in this war. Your heart and soul won't be enough, the training you've done since the age of 11 will come short, your terrible nicknames won't do anyone justice...

Because after all the smoke is cleared, after the dust has been settled, after all the cards have been dealt...

You will truly realize, what kind of a man... Christian really is...

Christian throws his microphone out of the ring as he prepares for battle

Dylan I am glad you took the time to do some research behind this match, really helped Christians return but you are the heel coming into this matchup. The way you passive aggressively talk about Christian being great, so he needs to pass the torch on to you is great heel talk. So you shouldn't write the crowd as being behind you as Christian is the returning legend with a lot of heat. So that didn't make a lot of sense to me from the first set.

It was a lot more clear once Christian became more bitter that you were the face and not the heel calling out a legend for his spot. Felt odd at the start how the crowd loved both of you.

Christian also felt like he had a unique personality when compared to Guernica. Christian was not just calling you out for a fight, or talking trash, he was written as if he was an actual human being with emotions. Also Punk being the legend he is showed me a lot of little extra things that can take the match to the next level. I took a lot away from reading his promos.

A good match, good promos from both, but Christian being the legend he is came out on top once more. Good show
  8. I'll state my vote and why here. I'll leave it in a spoiler so if anyone doesn't want to see it to "sway their vote" they can.

I read each of the promos as they were going out and other than one screw up, I think Dylan did better overall.

Maybe it is just because I am used to his character, but I enjoyed his promos more. I felt he stuck true to the Guernica character well. Also Christian said it was Brooklyn when the show is in Chicago (honest mistake though because the real life one was in Brooklyn).

Both your first promos were great, but, Dylan's second was the one that sealed it for me. The last promo for Christian I just didn't get as into as the first.

One issue....last time I checked...unless he changed it...

Guernica was one of the most uber babyfaces in NGW. He always talked about "being the light" and doing things for the fans. His character has been in multiple feds so him building up a following makes sense.

Why isn't there a thing in the sign up template to put if you are face or heel and a gimmick? That may kind of help people know who they are against and if they are portraying that character well.

I did make an edit just now as my wording was wrong as I rushed it. I get that Guernica is meant to be a baby face, but I like to look at it as Christian is returning so people would be watching for that. The people are tuning in to see Christian, not Guernica. In a realist term the fans would care more for Christian than Guernica, so personally I would of sided more with Dylan if he played with this matter. for example 2 antagonists fighting has no real resolve. They are not contending for anything, they are just fighting. A protagonist and antagonist are fighting each other to get the same thing. There should always be the divide for what people should cheer for and what they should boo.

I probably would of come into this match knowing I am a babyface, but by putting myself over Christian. Talk about how you are the one putting on the shows for the fans, tell us why you are better than Christian.

*Not to mention the fact that you trash talking Christian builds up a hatred on you and would get Christian even more over. So when Christian clearly shows he is a heel, it would envoke more hatred at Christian and would instantly put Guernica over big time to continue his argument at how Christian is a piece of work. This could of made me side with Guernica a lot more personally.

(sorry for all the edits, out of it with this weather right now)
  11. Fair point. But at the same time...I think there was a divide after Christian's second promo and even during his first he started to blur the lines between face and heel a bit. And technically there have been moments where the crowd loves both wrestlers. But it could have been a bit more divided. But then again the last time I was in an e-fed I was a babyface and I had 3 matches on one show against 7 people and all of them (except one tweener) were all faces...

In the end, we all have differing opinions and may the best person win.

*pats back* There there. R Truth did the same mistake before.

I can see where you're coming from. That said, it seems like it wouldn't make sense for Guernica, just for one match, go heel and be boo'd only to be cheered at the next show. Guernica is one of those characters who literally cannot be boo'd under any circumstance. As NLS said, he is an 'uber babyface'. He is written to be literally Jesus (in terms of forgiveness, honour, fairness, etc) and he has a passionate fanbase. Only a straight up heel turn and change in character (which I'm no way doing for the foreseeable future) could sway that.

I mean, look in real life. Let's use Rock v Cena as a (bad) example. Obviously, people just boo Cena for the sake of booing Cena, but they're two babyfaces who both get cheered by passionate fan bases. Rock, the legend, and Cena, the champ. Under no circumstance is Cena heel (or turned upon by his fanbase) during that match, just because Rock is a legend.

Just my twenty five and three quarters cents.

  13. Another great match, but Dylan rocking the babyface gimmick really got's so much tougher to do.
  14. I get ya. Really interested in reading your next few matches. I feel like you should try to portray how super babyface Guernica is next time, as someone who never read you in NGW, I didn't really get that you were a super face, came off more as you were just liked. Rather than having the crowd cheer for Christian in your promos next time, make them madly in love with you. They should be chanting your name and screaming in joy when you come out.
  15. Face + Face matches tend to be boring, so might as well go heel. :matt:

  16. I think you both cut great face promos, shit is impossible to find in the wild IWT so you both come out looking strong regardless of the voting.

Welcome back Christian, I'm always a mark for our 1st gen stuff, just though Dylan stuck to his game and it paid off. This entire IWT card has been nasty nice.
  17. Here is your winner...GUERNICA!
