Life After Death?

Discussion in 'Serious Topics & Debates' started by BradR, Jul 4, 2015.

  1. What do you think about this subject? Do you think there's life after death? I definitely. Though I can't explain what I think happens, I do think after we die, we go somewhere else, a place beyond earth where maybe our spirits live on or maybe even something like reincarnation. We just can't know what happens but people have their beliefs. I'm a strong believer in the life after death theory as there's so much that has happened to people and things which have been said that make us believe it's true. For example, children have mentioned an older family which they had previously and about how they had died. This makes me believe there's something, though, I can't explain such a thing since it's so complicated.

    What are your thoughts?

  2. I believe in it, I guess.

  3. Once we die we're gone forever.. That seems the most logical. People believe in this shit because they're scared of their own mortality, they want to believe they go somewhere once they die, they don't want to believe they're gone for all eternity, when that's probably what happens to us.

  4. I share in the beliefs of traditional Christianity in a most unorthodox way, but, yes, our souls (spirits, ka, what-have-you) continue after our mortal forms die.

By the way, I love how atheists chalk it all down to fear.

  5. I don't know if there is life after death, and I'm comfortable with that. I can believe that there is something after death, since we have a soul and mind. At the same time, I can also believe that once a life ends, the path will cease. It seems odd though, why we would be here to be given a life merely of less than 100 years or just a few more. In the end, we may never find out until we meet with death.

  6. The older I get, the more cynical I become. The concept of souls and an authority figure we cannot see/hear from/understand completely was great in civilizations i'm sure where people needed moral figures to help control the justice system for the city...and it's great for little kids who still believe in santa and the tooth fairy and all the other things we were SURE were true until we were told otherwise.

I cannot say it isn't true, but I can say the likelyhood that an all seeing, all knowing, omnipresent figure existing on some level above us is about as likely as reptilians, us being in a real matrix (and the movie was to ha ha! at us) and any of the other random conspiracies concocted by educated, intelligent people over the course of the past god knows how many years. It's far less likely there is a god than there is life elsewhere on the infinity that is space. Is God watching over people there?

Honestly it's all nonsense. If you need religion or it benefits you, great. My family are devout christians, and i'm not in that loop anymore. Hell, my sister is married to a WELS pastor and we all get along great. If you read the first two paragraphs as insulting, i'm not trying to be anything like that. I honestly just agree to disagree with people who think some zombie magician was beamed up to heaven like Scottie and he has our back when we fuck up as long as we feel bad about it.

  7. Pretty much every religion in the world is impossible to believe in, and all evidence, logic, rationality, and common sense to me strongly points to us being nothing more than physical, biological beings. You have blood, tissue, bones, organs, etc. Nothing I see really necessitates that there must be more to our existence than that.

  8. So, there's no actual difference between human beings and any other animal?

  10. I don't think we do, no. I hope we do though, living forever would be dope.
Humans are self-aware and that's pretty much it imo

  11. I think there is someplace we all go after we die. Is it heaven and hell IDK, but there is some other existence out there.

  12. I'm 99.99 certain there is no after life, but it'd be pretty cool I suppose.

  13. We're a little more self righteous/pretentious than most

  14. At this point in my life I'm pretty quick to dismiss any sort of afterlife one might have after death. I find it the least possible outcome of what happens when we're gone, but I don't want to rule it out completely. I want to stay open minded to the fact that we may just be able to have a mansion on the clouds once our physical beings have passed. Thinking about it though, it'd be pretty fucked up if this is the only life we really get to live seeing as some people never even see the light of day before they die.

  15. Do I want some sort of afterlife to live in. I guess that would be cool but I don't really believe there is one. I pretty much believe in 2 things that will happen to me for sure 100%. That is me being born(which already happened) and someday me dying. What happens in between there is pretty much left up to me and what happens after I die is pretty much a mystery and totally out of my hands.

  16. I really don't believe in the afterlife. I think when we are done with life here on this planet it is goodnight for us.

  17. It is okay to respect others' beliefs even when you don't agree with them...or at least tolerate them without being derisive.

Oh...and Live After Death was a pretty great album.

  18. We live in hell then we die and we go to an even worse hell. For eternity. Easy science.
