Baseball Mariners’ Steve Clevenger apologizes for racially insensitive tweets

  1. Seattle Mariners catcher Steve Clevenger has apologized for the racially insensitive tweets sent from his account about the protests of police killings in Charlotte, which prompted the Mariners to release a statement.

    It is unclear whether Clevenger wrote the posts, which refer to police-shooting victim Keith Lamont Scott as a "thug," mock athletes protesting during the national anthem and also lash out at the Black Lives Matter movement and president Barack Obama. The posts suggest those involved in the Charlotte protest “should be locked behind bars like animals.”
