  1. The final broadcast of WCW Monday Nitro aired on March 26, 2001. The show was highlighted by the news that WWE purchased the company, and a simulcast segment where Shane McMahon appeared live on Nitro to inform his father, who was watching the Nitro broadcast on the Raw set, that it was actually him that bought the company, much to Vince’s chagrin. This started the (ultimately disappointing) Invasion angle. The show also saw the on-screen firing of Jeff Jarrett from WWE/WCW, who later went on to found TNA Wrestling.
