AEW released their latest rankings (Feb. 26, 2020). Let’s check out the movers and shakers.
No changes this week. Jon Moxley beat Chris Jericho’s hired mercenary, Jeff Cobb. Cody Rhodes defeated MJF’s muscle, Wardlow, in a cage match. #3 PAC will wrestle #4 Kenny Omega tonight on Dynamite in a 30-minute Iron Man match.
Kris Statlander’s win over Shanna was enough to power her past Riho into the top spot. Now we know that is why she was granted a title shot against Nyla Rose at the Revolution PPV on February 29. Shanna is tough enough as an opponent, so I don’t see any issue with Statlander’s rise in the rankings. Riho dropped to #2, and the rest of the rankings have no changes.
The only movement came at #5. The Lucha Bros were defeated in their tag team championship opportunity, so they dropped off the rankings. The Best Friends slid into that spot. The Dark Order picked up a win against the Stronghearts on Dark, but that wasn’t good enough to slip past SCU. Also to note, the tag team battle royal last week did not count in the win/loss column for any team.
Looking at all the records for each set of rankings, the thing that pops out most this week is that the Lucha Bros (0-2) and Santana & Ortiz (0-1) don’t have any tag team wins. Both teams were two of the hottest free agent acquisitions for AEW in 2019, but they have been stymied in 2020. They’ve been given opportunities, such as the Lucha Bros tag team title shot last week and Santana & Ortiz being 2 of the last 3 competitors in the tag team battle royal. However, success eludes them. Next week will bring in a fresh chapter after Revolution. Here’s to hoping both teams find a groove, even if that means breaking into singles action.
Here’s Jenn Decker presenting the rankings.
