You didn’t think WWE was going to take the Intercontinental championship off Big E this soon after putting it on him, did you?

Even if they were going to, Apollo Crews seemed unlikely to be that guy. After a run in a United States championship program with The Hurt Business on Monday Night Raw, Crews was drafted to Friday Night SmackDown and immediately went absent. That changed last week when he teamed up with E to defeat Sami Zayn and Baron Corbin. Then he accepted an open challenge for an Intercontinental title match.

That went down on SmackDown this week, and featured some controversy:

After the break, they explained that both competitors had their shoulders down and therefore it was ruled a draw and the title would stay with Big E. Crews reacted by slapping E in the face and demanding the championship he believed he just won. Big E asked for the bell, and they ran it back right then and there.

The second match was much better than the first, although that had everything to do with the first one giving the second one some life. In the end, Big E hit the Big Ending and scored the pinfall to retain his title.
