Aww... I love their depressive alternative metal sound. It's different but it's so good, They actually disbanded for a while a reformed to play a different genre. But I can understand that some people will prefer the old stuff over the rest of their works.
I can respect that. I found them around 2006ish, didn't like them but went back and checked out their older stuff and loved it. Probably has a lot to do with the fact that I also come from a background of 80s/90s goth music which had a lot of edge to it. I see their appeal but it isn't for me.

It is impressive how much he sounds like Zack de la Rocha.
I had no idea who Denzel Curry was, and still really don't, but that's way better of a cover than I expected. Bassist needs to step it up though, Tim Commerford has some nice fills in that song.

Denzel is a rapper who came into the business around XXX and Scarlxrd did. A good amount of his songs, as well as Scar and XXX, have a "metal" feel to them which is why I kind of like them.

Oh RIP, the video in the first post is blocked due to copyright. Bummer. Don't think anyone that isn't into metal would come to this topic anyway so it isn't a big deal but I thought I'd put it there just in case. That's what I get for trying to be all educational and shit. Oh well.

I'm not as on top of newer bands as I used to be, but I think these guys are still my favorite band I've found in the past couple of years.

I always found After The Burial's older music a lot more interesting.

I haven't heard their new album besides that song but pretty much everything that followed Rareform kinda delved into mostly being just 8 and 9-string chugs with some melody thrown in there. Don't get me wrong, I love me some chugs, but things have reached a point where that's what most metal bands are doing now and the only ones still doing it in an interesting way are Meshuggah.

:becky:

For many years I turned a blind eye towards High On Fire but after
their recent Grammy win I decided to give them some time in my
headphones.

I'm currently making my way backwards through their studio album
catalogue & after Electric Messiah & Luminiferous I now find myself
listening to De Vermis Mysteriis which is again a dirty, powerful blast
of "redneck sludge grooves" which reminds me a lot of early Mastodon
& Neurosis.

Of course I say early Mastodon...but I should clarify that early Mastodon
was basically that band "aping" High On Fire. In fact if my memory serves
me correctly I believe that 4 (of the original 5) members of Mastodon
met at High On Fire show...which is a pretty cool story.

I find myself slowly warming to High On Fire the more I listen to them
which I will admit is rare for me. Usually its either "Yay or Nay" from the
very start with me.
