News Michael Cole reportedly gets a promotion

There’s been a lot of changes at WWE corporate over the past several months. Longtime execs George Barrios and Michelle Wilson are out. Paul “Triple H” Levesque either had his duties strategically shuffled or was demoted, depending on who you believe.

Now Michael Cole is the Vice-President of Announcing, at least according to PWInsider. Mike Johnson at Insider says the change happened a couple weeks ago, and it is a promotion for the long-time voice of the company.

Hired in 1997 after working as a news reporter covering major events like U.S. Presidential campaigns and the terrorist bombing in Oklahoma City for CBS Radio, Cole’s been calling matches and working as an on-screen talent for WWE non-stop over the last two-plus decades. Over the past few years he’s been transitioning more and more to a behind-the-scenes role, hiring and training new voice talent. This would seem to be another step into that producing role.

Congrats to Cole on his promotion, and we’ll see what this means for the sound of WWE going forward.
