With their next TakeOver coming up a week earlier (and on the opposite coast) from Triple H’s original plans, NXT wasted no time announcing the matches for their top two singles titles. Not they had a whole lot of work to do, since in both instances, the groundwork for June 1’s TakeOver: XXV was laid at April 5’s TakeOver: New York.

Johnny Gargano won the vacant NXT championship in Barclays Center on WrestleMania 35 weekend, but Adam Cole did win the first pinfall in their best two-out-of-three match. That’s given Undisputed ERA’s leader an excuse to claim he should be the champ. Now that Cole seems to have his crew back on the same page (thanks to Roderick Strong making good for some failed interference attempts by attacking Matt Riddle in the most dangerous place on Earth - Full Sail’s parking lot), he’s getting his rematch with Johnny Champion.

Shayna Baszler successfully defended her Women’s belt in Brooklyn’s Fatal 4Way by making Bianca Belair tap. But Io Shirai went into that match as the only woman to ever pin the Queen of Spades in WWE thanks to a tag victory in the run-up to TakeOver. That, plus the rage the Genius of Sky has for the champ thanks to Shayna & her Horsewomen forcing Kairi Sane out of NXT, is plenty of justification for General Manager William Regal to give Shirai a one-on-one title opportunity.

Then there’s the tag straps. Raw’s Viking Raiders tried to hand them over to Mr. Regal at the start of the May 15 episode of NXT, but Street Profits interrupted. That led to a title match, which Forgotten Sons interrupted. By the time the dust cleared, Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch had also gotten involved, and Erik & Ivar left the straps in the ring with a bow.

Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins and Wesley Blake, Steve Cutler & Jaxson Ryker are all boasting about what went down, so that could be the match for the vacant belts. Or we could get a Triple Threat with the Brit-Am Brawlers. WWE is telling us to stay tuned, so expect answers next Wednesday, if not in the interim.

So that’s what we know about the card for Bridgeport, Connecticut’s Webster Bank Arena in two-and-a-half weeks.
