In what seems to be an interesting mix of actual and storyline news, recent hire Matt Camp ran down an injury report from the live premiere of NXT on Wednesday night (Sept. 18) for the web series WWE Now. Leaked internal injury reports have been covered by sites such as Fightful and Wrestling Observer in recent months. It looks like the black-and-gold brand is reclaiming the term for their kayfabe.
At least one of the injuries covered is legit, as dark match reports (such as this one from our own JBL’s Other Boy) covered Kona Reeves getting busted open with a blow to the face during his loss to Damien Priest. Camp covers when it happened - a stray elbow at the tail end of a senton - and explains the cut needed five stitches. Reeves is also being evaluated for “orbital bone damage”.
The other two are more likely to be storyline. Arturo Ruas was on the receiving end of Pete Dunne’s usual array of finger snaps and digit manipulation during his submission loss to The Bruiserweight. He’s said to be awaiting the results of a hand x-ray. And the headline-grabbing name is former North American champ Velveteen Dream, who left his Undisputed ERA-aided loss to Roderick Strong “walking gingerly” due to “lumbar pain”. Neither man is cleared.
Killian Dain and Matt Riddle both are, though. Which makes sense, since they’re already being promoted for a resumption of their Street Fight as the main event of next week’s hour of NXT on USA. The winner gets a shot at NXT champ Adam Cole.
We’ll keep you posted with any updates on these three wrestlers, whether we believe them to be work or shoot.
