Why Fans Need To Stop Chanting CM Punk

Well of course it is their right to chant it. Freedom of speech and all (and buying the ticket). No one can say they shouldn't do it based on that...

They shouldn't do it based on the wrestlers they DO support because that is disrespectful to them. I just have a feeling that no matter what anyone says, it will continue until the next "trendy thing" to shout is relevant. Moe is right that they basically asked the crowd to do these kinds of things since like the late 90's. When they changed the rating and stopped the attitude era, there were still plenty of fans who weren't going to stop watching and enjoying the show the way they were for many years.

I find it annoying just because he isn't relevant in WWE anymore and never will be again. It makes the crowds look stupid when they do this and likely confuses newer fans BUT as mentioned, it is their right to shout it, if they want. I think this is beyond CM Punk though at this point. Maybe not in Chicago, but everywhere else it happens. It is the fan's way of saying "F**K YOU, WWE!" on TV and I bet there are people that buy tickets just to shout this at the shows.

I would not say that Punk has a Austin level fanbase. If he had people would actually care what he was up to outside of wrestling.

The guys "MMA career" barely gets any coverage.

His name has become a way for people to show their disinterest without properly laying out why they are disinterested.

Basically it's like a child crying before they figure out how to speak. They know something is wrong/that they don't like something. But they cannot vocalize and formulate it properly.

He's clearly relevant in some way if people are still chanting his name.
His ring name is relevant because people are using his name to basically tell WWE they aren't happy. I know more people than not that don't care if he comes back.

As I said, he isn't coming back. If he decides to wrestle again it will likely be somewhere like Japan.

This is a hot take from me.

Punk would not cut it over there. The schedule and style stiffness (if we work off of the premise that he goes to New Japan) would break him

Well you are one of the ones on the forum who watches and understands Japan wrestling so my guess is, you are right.

I know nothing about how it works. Just throwing something out there that would stick it to Vince really. CM Punk is petty enough to do something like that.

Oh he definitely is petty enough to try. But I don't see him doing the constant trans-pacific/trans-atlantic flights to and from Japan combined with working some very hard hitting matches depending on who he works a match with for long. After all he already has 15+ years of work on his body and he's no spring chicken in the wrestling game.

Nor do I see him pulling a Juice Robinson (NXT's CJ Parker) who just uprooted and straight up moved to Japan and lives in the NJPW dojo now bar Christmas.

IF Punk comes back to wrestling it will be in America for whatever is the biggest alternative to the WWE who can match his most likely gargantuan pay request.

Punk ain't doing shit like this

I belee dat :reigns3:

I'm sorry but Punk may have worked his butt off at one point but towards the end of his career he became lazy and complained non-stop about the work load in WWE. Everyone is fully aware of what it takes to be in the top of the company, even the fans know this... He wanted to be the main guy with half the work. That is the biggest reason he quit. The medical stuff just added to it. I agree with you... He would not last 5 minutes in Japan.

I want Punk to Japan to work one of DDT's crazy street/outside wrestling events.

Just want to make clear that my argument was never "freedom of speech." That is only in regards to the people's relation to the government. It's more that the as consumers, they can criticize what they pay for in any way they want.

For example, if the WWE were paying people to go to the shows, then I would agree that they shouldn't chant such a thing. But since it's the other way around, they're just going to have to suck it up. If an employee of WWE was chanting it and they got fired for it, I'd support the firing.

Honestly, the best way for this to go away is to ignore it. People who don't like it should stop talking about it. WWE employees should not mention it at any time. Wrestling journalists and wrestling YouTube channels who do not like the chants should stop doing videos about why people should stop it. Because the more it's talked about by those who don't like it, the more it will continue to happen. People are naturally antagonistic to a degree.

I wasn't saying that because of something you said, silly. I was just agreeing with Moe.

The way life is, we all have to accept that other people will do and say things we don't enjoy. Getting mad about it or angry over it is a waste of time. No two people can agree on everything ever. It is impossible.

I think we can all agree that Punk is overrated though. :pity:
