On Tuesday the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced “25 Core Sports” for the 2020 Olympic Games dropping one of the original Olympic sports: wrestling. Wrestling will now have to fight to remain a part of the 2020 games. TNA IMPACT WRESTLING is home to 1996 Olympic Gold Medalist Kurt Angle and is dedicated to change this decision.

The IOC stated reasoning for the decision, according to the report, was an analysis of "more than three dozen criteria, including television ratings, ticket sales, anti-doping policy and global participation and popularity.” The IOC has decided to keep recreational sports such as badminton, handball and table tennis in the “25 Core Sports” category and to delete one of the oldest Olympic sport that premiered in the first modern Olympics in Athens in 1896.

Kurt Angle is considered the best wrestler of all time to be in both amateur and professional wrestling and is gearing up to fight this decision and organize a battalion of like minds to save this Olympic sport.

“Wrestling is one of the most competitive sports in the world today,” stated TNA Superstar and 1996 Gold Medalist Kurt Angle. “Winning the gold for my country in one of the original Olympic sports was one of the greatest moments in my life.

“The wrestling community is in a state of shock with this decision– we can not sit back and allow this to happen. I will do whatever it takes and work with my company TNA WRESTLING and the competitive wrestling community to determine what we need to do to reverse this decision.”

“The news from the IOC is very disheartening to all of us at TNA as well as the tens of millions around the world who either participate in amateur wrestling or enjoy watching it in its entertainment form,” stated TNA President Dixie Carter. “We need to join together right now. We encourage our own IMPACT WRESTLING community, WWE and wrestling organizations worldwide as well as competitive amateur coaches and athletes to have a unified voice to make sure wrestling will be an Olympic sport in 2020.”

  7. Because they have added more popular sports to the games for one (Rugby, Golf) and will be competing against more exotic/popular sports like wakeboarding and even rollerblading which are far more exciting imo. I said I see the logic, not that I agree with it.

Furthermore, wrestling lacks any big names. Olympics are becoming more and more about the big names to help draw the audience (not an opinion, that's a fact). Quotes from NYTimes

"And the popularity of Olympic-style wrestling in the United States is far surpassed by the staged bombast of professional wrestling."

"The committee might also have grown frustrated that Greco-Roman wrestling did not include women, experts said. Women began participating in freestyle wrestling at the 2004 Athens Games. "

It doesn't bother me, it's boring as fuck and no one really turns up to see it.

  8. OK.

But you can't just cut something that's been there since the beginning and ORIGINAL. It's practically on the Olympics since forever.

  9. That means no more of this:

    Sorry JeebaK

  10. No time for sentiment in the modern world unfortunately. Let's say wakeboarding became one of the most popular sports in the world but couldn't be in the Olympics because of wrestling, would you still say it's right to keep wrestling because it has been there from the start?

  11. You'd think that after all the controversies of Cycling recently they'd drop that rather than an olympic sport that has been in the Olympics since the start.

Pretty bullshit imo, especially if it's to free up room for a new sport.

  12. How they can drop what is pretty much THE purest form of competition and keep some of the other events is beyond me. I am not knocking any of the other sports but hey, wrestling goes back to the earliest recorded history of mankind, not badminton. For the Olympic games, which is supposed to continue the tradition of sporting events through the generations, to eliminate wrestling, wreaks of politics and stupidity to me. The elimination pretty much puts a smart bomb into the heart of amateur wrestling competition and I don't need to tell you how much pro wrestling has needed those athletes to help find and groom the next generation of talents.

  13. I completely agree that politics has a part to play, and probably a huge part. Let's just hope it's voted back in, but that's highly unlikely unfortunately.

  14. It's not until 2020, right? Either way, Lesnar and Angle aren't pumped i'm sure....

  15. The fuck..

Wrestling is ONE OF THE Olympic sports.. Wtf is this shit bro?

  16. Poor everyone that loves wrestling, it sucks not to be more an Olympic sport, it was great, but if wrestling does not deserve to be in the Olympic games other martial arts shouldn't be there too. Someone with me?

  17. BOLD SHIT! WRESTLING DESAVRE TO BE AN OLYMPIC GAME!

  18. So does this mean Kurt Angle has to hand over his gold menist?

  19. That's exactly what this menist. What a shame :facepalm1:

  20. Im pedo, not gay, learnt the difference they are too old and gross eww.:nogusta:

On topic, i hate the decision because currently india dominates that department.
